For the 50th consecutive year, Mecklenburg County has earned the highest recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

In June 2025, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada announced it has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Mecklenburg County for the County's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2024.

The Mecklenburg County Financial Services Department completes the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report after each fiscal year to communicate the financial health of the County, and to comply with State of North Carolina requirements.

According to the award judges, the FY2024 report demonstrates a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate Mecklenburg County's financial story and motivates potential users and user groups to read the report.

“This award recognizes Mecklenburg County’s dedication to remaining transparent about the stewardship of our resources,” said David Boyd, chief financial officer for Mecklenburg County. “My thanks go to our County leaders and the Financial Services team for their hard work in creating this report and making it a success.”
