​Accomplishments and Challenges: Chair Dunlap Delivers 2023 ‘State of the County’

After rebounding from the uncertainty of COVID-19 during the past three years, the Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County CommissionersGeorge Dunlap, reported that the health and wellness of the County remains steady, and its fiscal health is stable.

That is his message in the annual State of the County address, delivered Friday, March 10, 2023.

Chair Dunlap focused on the County's economic well-being. He also reviewed the Board of County Commissioners' priorities for the FY2024 budget and offered an update on accomplishments and challenges within each:

  • Early Childhood Development

  • Educational Attainment

  • Workforce Development

  • Housing Insecurity

  • Health Access

  • Environmental Stewardship

  • Racial Equity

In addition to the priorities, Chair Dunlap delivered an update on the 2023 revaluation, the County's plans to spend about $32 million from the national opioid settlement, and the work to reimagine Latta Place.
