Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is celebrating Black History Month in February with several events that honor the legacy of Black Americans in Mecklenburg County and beyond.

Black History Exhibit at Tuckaseegee Recreation Center
Tuckaseegee Recreation Center’s Black History Exhibit celebrates the rich history and contributions of African Americans, with highlights on inventions, music, colleges, sports and entertainment. The drop-in exhibit is open during the center’s normal hours of operations.

Black History Nature Series Presents: Black on Water at Stevens Creek Nature Center
Embark on the journey of the complex history between African Americans and water. Explore historical figures, events and organizations that helped combat the negative stereotype of African Americans being afraid of the water. This will be a lecture-style presentation with a discussion.

Community Black History Bingo and Trivia Nights at Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center
