Celebrate Earth Day with Mecklenburg County

Mecklenburg County is hosting several events where residents can learn more about our environment and help protect it.
Earth Day Bingo, April 15
Children and preteens ages 5-12 are invited to Earth Day bingo at the Allegra Westbrooks Regional Library from 6 to 7 p.m. Learn more about the event.
Clean-Up Events: April 21 and 22
Park and Recreation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, and Keep Charlotte Beautiful are holding combined park, street, and stream litter clean-ups. Residents can join the efforts on April 21 at Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center, Enderly Park and neighboring streets or April 22 at Cordelia Park, Little Sugar Creek Greenway and the surrounding area. Register for these events and other volunteer opportunities happening in April.
Earth Day Hike: April 22
Explore the trails at Reedy Creek Park during this leisurely hike with Park and Recreation staff. Please register for the hike in advance.
Love Your Local: April 22-27
The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mecklenburg County Center will host a celebration of local food, sustainability, and community connection with Love Your Local. Events include gardening demonstrations, brewery trivia, a farmers market shopping tour, and a youth cookoff. Family Nature Bingo Walk, April 23
Join the University City Regional Library for a lesson on Earth Day from 2 to 3 p.m. Take a walk around the lake to find plants and animals for a chance to win nature BINGO. For ages 5 – 11 with their caregivers. Learn more about the event.
Senior Gardening: April 24
Seniors age 55 and older are invited to the Northern Regional Recreation Center at 9:30 a.m. to learn gardening tips and help grow vegetables that will feed the community. Please register for senior gardening in advance.
Kids Night Out: April 25
This monthly event for kids ages 7-13 features two hours of engaging games and dinner centered around the theme of Earth Day. At the Northern Regional Recreation Center at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Earth Day Take-Back: April 26
Spring cleaning is easier with this enhanced recycling event. Residents can shred sensitive documents and drop off working electronics, unwanted textiles (clothes, towels, sheets, etc.) and certain medical supplies from 9 a.m. to noon at Compost Central (140 Valleydale Road, Charlotte). Although the event is free, pre-registration is required for paper shredding. Participants may also get a coupon for a free yard of loose compost.
City Nature Challenge: Multiple Dates
