Coming Together for Our Creeks: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services Hosts Creek Week March 22-29

Mallard Creek

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and its partners are hosting events March 22-29 to celebrate Creek Week, an appreciation of the 3,000 miles of creeks in Mecklenburg County. Residents of all ages are encouraged to sign up to clean our streams and learn more about our precious waterways.

There will be 20 educational and volunteer opportunities throughout the week. Residents can sign up to clean up a creek near their neighborhood, spend a lunch hour volunteering, or enjoy family story time with Stormy the Storm Water Turtle. There is also a greenway opening, fishing lessons, tree identification classes, and a mindful meditation on the calendar.

The week concludes with The Big Spring Clean on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, as hundreds of residents gather at creek locations around Charlotte-Mecklenburg for a big, one-day cleanup event.

During last year’s Creek Week and Big Spring Clean, 137 volunteers picked up nearly 20,000 pounds of litter from our streams and greenways. This year, we hope to have over 200 volunteers helping our community.
