Cornelius Stakeholders Invited to Learn About Updated Flood Risk Data

Residents, business owners, and community leaders in the Town of Cornelius are invited to attend a public open house meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to learn more about updates to local flood hazard and flood risk data.

The open house will give participants the opportunity to:

  • Review the results of the preliminary flood risk data
  • Learn how to submit appeals and comments on the revised studies
  • Ask questions about the updated flood studies and the National Flood Insurance Program

County and municipal staff will be available to help residents locate their properties on the updated maps and better understand their level of flood risk. Representatives from the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program will also be on site to explain the preliminary map update process, answer questions about flood insurance, and provide guidance on floodplain management.

The flood hazard data is accessible online at fris.nc.gov/map. Select the Preliminary tab to view the preliminary data to determine whether your property is affected by this update.

The meeting takes place at the Northern Regional Recreation Center at 18121 Old Statesville Road in Classroom A from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
