County Manager Receives Prestigious Vision Award

Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio was awarded the prestigious Vision Award by Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) on April 24, 2025.

Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio was awarded the prestigious Vision Award by Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) on April 24. CCCP called Diorio a bold visionary and a highly effective executive leader, known for her unwavering commitment and all-in approach to serving our community.

“It has been the honor of my life to be Mecklenburg County manager,” said Diorio. “I am humbled to be included on this list of Vision Award recipients as collectively, they have had a transformational impact on our community.”

Diorio has served Mecklenburg County as the County manager since 2014. During her tenure she navigated the County government through numerous challenges, including a cyber attack, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Diorio was recognized for launching MECK PreK in 2019, the universal preschool program for four-year-olds for qualifying families. The program has served more than 8,000 children to date. Diorio was noted for her commitment to address homelessness, affordable housing, economic mobility as well as being a champion for parks, greenways, and the main library and many other projects in center city.

Previous recipients of the Vision Award include Hugh McColl, Harvey Gantt, Leon and Sandra Levine, Pat Rodgers, Michael Marsicano and Gene Woods.
