Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio was recognized for her long-standing commitment to the Hispanic and Latino community through the partnership with Camino, a bilingual and multicultural nonprofit.

Diorio received the El Camino Campeon Leadership Award.

“Camino is a trusted partner for Mecklenburg County,” said Diorio. “I am honored by the recognition but even more proud of the work we have done together to support our Hispanic and Latino residents at the healthcare center which includes comprehensive dental care services as well as mental health counseling support.”

Camino’s service campus includes a health center, economic mobility program, thrift store, church, research institute and educational services.

Since 2016, Mecklenburg County has allocated over $2 million to support Camino’s work in health services, allowing for an expansion of services as well as its reach into the community.  The County also supported Camino with $4.7 million for a comprehensive dental services center. The County also distributed $2.5 million in ARPA funding for mental health services with group and individual counseling.
