Delinquent Tax Advertisement to be Published this Weekend

​Approximately 42,000 Mecklenburg County property owners who have delinquent 2022 real and personal property tax bills will have their names and the principal amount they owe published, as required by state law, in The Charlotte Observer, on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Bills paid after Feb. 28, 2023 may be included in the advertisement. Visit MeckNC.gov/taxes and click on Property Tax System to determine the current amount due for any delinquent real estate or personal tax bill.

The purpose of the advertisement is to notify taxpayers of their 2022 tax obligation. Delinquent taxpayers are subject to having their North Carolina income tax refund and/or lottery winnings seized to pay off their County property taxes.

The Tax Collector is also empowered to garnish funds, levy (seize and sell) personal property, and foreclose on real property to satisfy unpaid taxes. Properties identified as eligible for foreclosure can be found here. These actions may be taken after the delinquent date and are not contingent on the advertisement of delinquent taxes.

Here's how to pay your tax bill:

•  By Internet: Log on to MeckNC.gov/paytax and use your credit card, debit card or e-check. *

• By phone: Call toll-free 1-800-994-1026 and use your credit card, debit card or pay by e-check. Service is available in English or Spanish when paying your tax bill by phone.

• By mail: Mail your check using the return envelope that accompanied your tax bill.

• In person: Pay at the Tax Collector's office at the Valerie C. Woodard Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Suite 3000, Charlotte, NC, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Cash, credit cards, debit cards, money orders or checks are accepted. Make checks payable to the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector.

* A convenience fee is charged by the payment vendor when using the credit card or debit card option. There is no charge for electronic check (eCheck) payments.
