Don’t Miss the Four Wards of Charlotte Bike Tour
It’s time to grab your bicycles (and helmets!) and join us for a tour of the historic four wards of Uptown Charlotte. What better way to welcome spring than a little exercise and education?
“If you buy into the myth that Charlotte has lost or torn down all of its history, you should not miss this event,” said Stewart Gray, Director of Historic Landmarks.
The Historic Landmarks Commission and the Charlotte Spokes People are joining forces for a fun and informative Uptown bike ride to visit six local historic landmarks:
- First A.R.P. Church (now the McColl Center for Visual Arts)
- The former Mecklenburg Investment Company and North Carolina Medical College buildings
- The old Crowell-Berryhill Store (now Alexander Michael’s restaurant)
- The Elmwood, Pinewood, and Settlers cemeteries
- Along the way, we’ll also view 13 more local historic landmarks
“If you’ve ever walked or driven uptown and wondered, ‘What’s up with that building?’ you should not miss this event,” said Tommy Warlick, Historic Preservation Specialist. “If you even think you want to miss this event, you should not miss this event.”
The tour will start Saturday at 10 a.m. and will last about two hours. It’s a rain or shine event. We will start and end the tour at the Mecklenburg County parking lot at the corner of College Street and E. 11th Street, 213 E. 11th Street. Register online by Friday, May 17.
