BHS Corrugated North America, a subsidiary of German-based BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH, has selected Charlotte for its new North American Experience Center, creating more than 50 jobs over the next several years.

The 25,000-square-foot BHS Experience Center, located in Rushmore Five at Ballantyne, marks a milestone for BHS, a global leader in the corrugated industry, as it looks to expand its market share in North America.

"The BHS Experience Center embodies our vision for the future of customer engagement in the corrugated industry," said Scott Purrington, president and CEO of BHS North and South America. "We're creating an innovation ecosystem where customers, partners and our team can collaborate to drive the industry forward through hands-on experiences, cutting-edge technology, and personalized support. The location, with a thriving business community and dynamic offerings like The Bowl, supports our long-term growth. Charlotte and the Experience Center will play a critical role as we continue to invest in our growth within the North America footprint.”

Jobs include executive leadership, service, training, sales, parts, information technology, human resources and finance.

Key positions began transitioning to Charlotte in November 2024. According to Purrington, Charlotte’s talent pool has helped to build “a multifunctional and highly effective team.” Within the first few months, BHS has quickly welcomed more than 25 new team members. The company expects to complete the build-out of the space by this fall.

This project was a collaborative effort between Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.

"Our region has a successful track record supporting advanced manufacturing with a talented local workforce,” said Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell. “We welcome BHS Corrugated’s new North American Experience Center, and the job and training opportunities the company will bring to our residents.”

The space is designed to elevate the customer experience, with collaboration, hands-on learning and high-tech demonstrations, featuring:

  • The Service Command Post: A next-generation monitoring and support center that will leverage real-time data analytics and remote service capabilities to deliver proactive solutions for customers across North America, dramatically reducing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency.
  • The Equipment Showroom: A fully immersive demonstration space where visitors can interact with BHS's state-of-the-art machinery in a hands-on environment, allowing customers to visualize transformative production possibilities through augmented reality and interactive simulations.
  • The Training Academy: A comprehensive educational hub fostering the next generation of industry talent through advanced simulation technology and expert-led workshops that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application.

“We are pleased to welcome BHS Corrugated North America to Charlotte,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “Their decision to open an Experience Center here shows how Charlotte stands out as a hub for both advanced manufacturing and innovation. It’s a great example of how global partnerships can create high-quality jobs here in our city.”

Extensive Site Search

Charlotte’s selection follows an extensive and strategic multimarket site search led by commercial firm Vestian.

"Our mission was to find a location that could truly support the multifaceted requirements of BHS Corrugated's innovative Experience Center concept," said Greg Krzysko, executive managing director at Vestian. "The search required balancing executive office needs, technology showcase capabilities, and a setting that would deliver an exceptional experience for international clients and partners. Charlotte's Ballantyne district emerged as the clear frontrunner."

John Barton, president of Northwood Office, said, "BHS Corrugated's selection of Rushmore Five in Ballantyne validates our commitment to creating environments where innovation thrives. Their visionary Experience Center concept aligns perfectly with Ballantyne's evolution as a premier mixed-use destination that blends world-class office space with an exceptional quality of life. We look forward to supporting their growth and success in Charlotte."

The Charlotte region is home to over 1,000 foreign-owned companies, and Germany is the leader in investment here. German companies employ more than 19,000 people in and around Charlotte.
