Hiring Now: Get Ready for a Construction, Maintenance or Manufacturing Career

Mecklenburg County is helping residents climb the career ladder in the construction, maintenance and facility management, and advanced manufacturing industries.

The Mecklenburg County Office of Economic Development will host a Career Expo on Feb. 21 to connect job seekers with field, indoor facility, and office positions at local companies in these industries. To prepare candidates for the Career Expo and potential on-site interviews, the County will also hold two Job Readiness Workshops on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Local employment opportunities are increasing, but some job seekers still struggle to access employment with a sustainable living wage. To address this gap, and to support social mobility and a high quality of life, Mecklenburg County actively works to connect job seekers to training and career-ladder employment opportunities.

Feb. 6 and 7 Job Readiness Workshops
To accommodate a variety of schedules, a daytime workshop is scheduled for Feb. 6 at Hornets Nest Park in Charlotte, and an evening workshop is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Veterans Park in Charlotte. The same information will be shared at each workshop.

Workshop attendees will be introduced to the construction, maintenance and facility management, and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as local jobs in these industries. Additionally, attendees will learn about:

  • Resume building.
  • Soft skills, such as skills in interviewing, communication, teamwork, problem solving, time management and work ethic.
  • Employment resources for justice-involved individuals.
  • Services in the Mecklenburg County area that can help job seekers find employment.

Registration is required for the workshops. Spanish-speaking coordinators will be available to assist attendees. Free parking will be available, and refreshments will be provided.
