HOMES: Economic Assistance Grants for Homeowners Available Starting July 1

Colorful shotgun homes in North Carolina.

A 10-minute application could save a homeowner more than $1,000. The Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) program returns July 1 to help homeowners address rising home costs.

HOMES provides economic assistance grants of up to $650 to qualifying homeowners in Mecklenburg County. Residents within the Town of Davidson may qualify for an additional grant of up to $534.

Homeowners must have lived in their home for at least three years, meet a qualifying total household income level, and have no more than one delinquent tax bill in the past three years. There is no age requirement, the home does not have to be paid off, and applicants whose mortgage company pays their taxes (escrow) may still be eligible for the program.

Applicants should be prepared to provide 2024 income verification documents such as W-2, W-4, 1099, and SSI forms, as part of their application.

The application can be found at MeckNC.gov/4HOMES starting July 1. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. The application can be submitted online, by email, by mail, or in person at a Community Resource Center. The deadline to apply is Nov. 21.
