The Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) Program returns for another season, which began July 1, 2024. Mecklenburg County is partnering again with the City of Charlotte to help homeowners struggling with the rising costs of living. Last year, thousands with low to moderate incomes benefited from this County-created program. HOMES is excited to announce a new partnership with the Town of Davidson for this season.

HOMES offers qualifying homeowners an economic assistance grant. There is no age requirement, the home does not have to be paid off, and applicants whose mortgage company pays their taxes (escrow) may still be eligible for the program. Mecklenburg County homeowners who may qualify for a HOMES grant are those who have lived in their home for at least the last three years, meet a qualifying total household income level, and have no more than one delinquent tax bill in the last three years.

HOMES provides economic assistance grants of up to $648 to qualifying Mecklenburg County residential homeowners. Residents within the Charlotte city limits may receive additional grant funding up to $367, so residents could receive up to $1,015. Qualifying residents in the Town of Davidson could get an additional grant up to $566 for a total of $1,214.

Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. New applicants and previous grant recipients are encouraged to complete and submit the easy, one-page application online, by email, or mail. The application window runs through Nov. 22, 2024. Applications and verifications must be submitted and postmarked by Nov. 22, 2024.

Additionally, applicants may drop off their completed applications and verifications at the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Suite 1000, Charlotte; the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center, 430 Stitt Road, Charlotte; the County Assessor’s Office, 3205 Freedom Drive, Suite 3500, Charlotte; or the Wallace H. Kuralt Center, 301 Billingsley Road, Charlotte. Applications can also be emailed to [email protected].

“Mecklenburg County residents struggling with rising costs have an ally in the HOMES program,” said Shakirah Francis, Community Services manager with the Department of Community Resources. “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Charlotte again, and we welcome the Town of Davidson as our newest partner in this endeavor. If you are having trouble keeping your home, know that help is here. We encourage everyone who is eligible to apply.”
