Keeping Residents Warm: Energy Program Applications Open for all Qualifying Households Jan. 1
Households can save up to $500 on their energy bills thanks to the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP).
LIEAP aims to assist households with their energy needs – particularly as costs rise in the winter months.
Applications for residents age 60 and older as well as individuals with disabilities receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services opened Dec. 1. Applications for all other qualifying households will open on Jan. 1, 2026.
If approved, a one-time payment of $300, $400 or $500 will be made directly to the applicant’s utility company. Payments may take four to six weeks to take effect. Applications will be accepted through March 31.
Households must meet the following criteria:
- At least one eligible U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be responsible for the heating cost
- Income at or below 150% (60 years of age or older) or 130% (under 60) of the Federal Poverty Level
In addition to the application, applicants must provide:
- Identification, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, or passport
- Utility bill (must be in applicant’s name)
