Mecklenburg County Awarded for Strategic Planning and Performance Measures
Mecklenburg County government has been recognized nationally for its commitment to strategic planning and performance management.
On Monday, April 15, the American Society for Public Administration’s (ASPA) Center for Accountability and Performance (CAP) presented Mecklenburg County with the 2024 Organizational Leadership Award. The award recognizes outstanding applications of performance measurement that produces culture change, sustained improvements, and positive effects on government performance and accountability.
Mecklenburg County’s Office of Strategy and Innovation manages the County’s strategic business planning work, leading performance management processes, and carrying out annual evaluations throughout the organization. The Business Process Management division supports County departments with the execution of improvement initiatives, utilizing a customer-focused, strategic approach that targets operational efficiencies, service delivery optimization, and quality improvement opportunities.
“Strategic planning and the drive to improve how we conduct business is ingrained within Mecklenburg County government,” said County Manager Dena R. Diorio. “These attributes guide leaders and departments to elevate the most pressing, important issues to the forefront, and carry out the Board of County Commissioners’ vision into action. It also serves to allow the public to understand and have a voice in the County’s priorities.”
The award emphasizes Mecklenburg County’s transparent and successful track record of using strategy and data to improve service delivery. It showcases the County’s investments in the Office of Strategy and Innovation and the Business Process Management division—both housed in the County Manager’s Office—and upholds them as leaders in those areas of government.
