Mecklenburg County to Distribute 1,000 Turkeys
Mecklenburg County is hosting a holiday turkey distribution on Saturday, Nov. 22 to help families celebrate Thanksgiving with a warm, nutritious meal.
Registration is now open for the Saturdays on Stitt Turkey Giveaway. This drive-thru event will take place at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center, 430 Stitt Road, in Charlotte.
Mecklenburg County is partnering with Nourish Up and Food Lion to distribute 1,000 turkeys, as well as additional food items to round out a holiday meal.
“The need for food and nutrition assistance in Mecklenburg County is still pressing,” said Mecklenburg County Manager Mike Bryant. “With the turkey distribution event, we are providing some of our vulnerable residents an opportunity to have a meaningful traditional meal as we head into the holiday season.”
Participants should register for a specific time slot to receive their turkey. Priority will be given to individuals and families receiving SNAP benefits; participation will be verified prior to the event. Registrants who are not active SNAP participants will be placed on a waitlist and notified prior to the event if any turkeys are available.
The turkey distribution is one of several ways Mecklenburg County government is assisting residents whose SNAP benefits may have been affected due to the federal government shutdown. On Nov. 3, County leaders announced they had dedicated $740,000 in FY2026-approved funding to support food and nutrition assistance efforts.
