Mecklenburg County Extends Access to Behavioral and Mental Health Services
Mecklenburg County is bridging the gap between mental health services and those who need them the most.
In partnership with Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center, residents can access up to eight free counseling sessions at a Mecklenburg County Community Resource Center (CRC). No appointment is required—walk-ins are welcome.
Licensed Anuvia counselors are available to provide individuals and families confidential and compassionate mental health support. Counselors can help residents dealing with stress, anxiety, substance use concerns, or a crisis. After an initial session, residents can continue to access care, either in person at the CRC or virtually. Residents can access services regardless of insurance status.
For some residents, accessing services during a time of crisis makes all the difference. One client noted that being able to talk to a counselor helped them feel less worried and depressed, as well as connected to other resources.
“They made it so easy to connect with the services when I really needed them,” said one client who sought help at the Ella B. Scarborough Center. “They helped me feel like I had a safe space to talk about my current situation.”
Services are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the:
- Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center, 430 Stitt Road, Charlotte, NC 28213
- Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Entrance A, Charlotte, NC 28208
More than one in five adults experienced mental illness in 2024, including issues such as major depressive disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. That same year, Mecklenburg County adopted its Behavioral Health Strategic Plan, to help guide the use of public funding for behavioral health services in the community.
