Mecklenburg County Leaders to Convene Partners to Discuss the Impact of Federal Cuts on Residents
The passing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) will have significant consequences for residents, and County leaders are organizing community partners to be better prepared and to share information. Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell and County Manager Mike Bryant will host key partners to discuss OBBBA’s potential impacts, possible partnerships, sharing of knowledge as well as consider collective advocacy opportunities.
“We are all dedicated to serving our community and those who need us the most,” said Mark Jerrell, Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners chair. “We need to work with our partners to navigate next steps. The goal is to get together to share what we know, discuss what could happen and how we can help our residents.”
One goal of the meeting is to form a working group to address the various issues to come as a result of the OBBBA. New restrictions and mandates for SNAP and Medicare benefits will roll out in 2026 and 2027.
“There are challenges ahead for Mecklenburg County following these federal cuts,” said Mike Bryant, Mecklenburg County manager. “We need to work with our partners to help as many people as possible while being open and transparent with the information we have as well as to discuss the path forward.”
