Stay Safe:

  • Avoid water on roadways and do not drive through large puddles.
  • Stay away from downed power lines.
  • Make way for emergency responders and utility lineman.

Prepare:

  • Sign up for CharMeck Alerts to receive emergency alerts by text, phone call, and/or email.
  • Protect your property: Move valued items to higher levels and clear drains and gutters. Check neighborhood storm drains clearing leaves and debris to improve drainage on your street. This helps prevent flooding.
  • Know your area’s flood risk. You can find information about floodplains and search for your address using Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water’s interactive 3D Floodzone Map.

Respond:

  • Turn Around. Don’t Drown. Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
  • Avoid wading in floodwater, which can contain dangerous debris and be contaminated. Underground or downed power lines can electrically charge the water.
