State of Emergency

A state of emergency remains in effect for Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte and the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill, and Pineville. A state of emergency means:

  • Price increases are prohibited.
  • Immediate needs like rescue, medical assistance, food and shelter are addressed.
  • Essential facilities can be restored for residents and visitors.
  • Public safety and other city services can increase staffing to respond.

Conserve Energy

Extremely cold temperatures – 10 to 20 degrees below normal – are driving unusually high energy demand. Duke Energy is asking customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 4-10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, to help lessen the energy demand on the grid and reduce the potential of temporary power outages.

Stay Safe

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management encourages residents to prioritize safety during extreme winter weather, and caution awareness for carbon monoxide, road safety, downed trees and limbs, pets, and more. Residents are encouraged to take extra steps to prevent frozen pipes.
