Mecklenburg County Parks, Libraries, Recycling Centers Closed Jan. 31 and Feb. 1

Due to anticipated extreme winter weather, several Mecklenburg County facilities and services will be closed during the weekend of Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. A state of emergency has been declared by the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County as of 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30.

Park and Recreation: All operations including recreation and senior centers, parks, nature preserves, and nature centers are closed.

Solid Waste Recycling Centers are closed.

Community Support Services:

  • NOVA, or New Options for Violent Offenders, closed Saturday.
    Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchange Center closed Saturday, open Sunday. 

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library locations are closed.

The state of emergency means:

  • Price increases are prohibited.
  • Immediate needs like rescue, medical assistance, food and shelter are addressed.
  • Essential facilities can be restored for residents and visitors.
  • Public safety and other city services can increase staffing to respond. 

Stay Safe 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management encourages residents to prioritize safety during extreme winter weather, and caution awareness for carbon monoxide, road safety, downed trees and limbs, pets, and more. Residents are encouraged to take extra steps to prevent frozen pipes.

  • When to call 911: For serious, unexpected, and dangerous situations requiring immediate action that may result in personal injury or property damage. Examples: medical emergency, downed power line, downed tree blocking a road. 
     
  • When to call 311: For information on public service impacts, clogged storm drains, downed trees not affecting public safety.
