Mecklenburg County Public Health Offers Free Testing for HIV Testing Day

Mecklenburg County Public Health will recognize National HIV Testing Day on June 27 by providing free testing for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and information and referrals for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) – an HIV prevention medication.

“With advancements in HIV treatment and prevention methods, we now have the tools we need to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and it starts with getting tested and knowing your status,” said Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington.  

There will be free testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) offered at multiple locations throughout the week including:

As of December 31, 2023, 7,446 diagnosed and reported persons residing in Mecklenburg County are living with HIV. In 2023, 272 new HIV diagnoses were reported in Mecklenburg County. Over the last 5 years, HIV cases have been diagnosed in every zip code in the County; however, there continues to be higher incidence in certain geographic areas and among certain priority populations. In 2022, African Americans accounted for nearly 3 out of 5 new HIV cases.
