Medical Equipment Now Accepted at Compost Central

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste is now accepting gently used medical equipment as part of its enhanced recycling program at Compost Central.

Residents can drop off certain medical items – including scooters, manual wheelchairs, shower chairs, and walkers – at Compost Central (140 Valleydale Road, Charlotte).

The expansion of the enhanced recycling program not only benefits residents looking to clear their homes of unwanted items, but those with medical needs in our community. Mecklenburg County has partnered with AssistMe, a local nonprofit that collects, cleans, and donates medical equipment to uninsured or underinsured patients in Mecklenburg County.

Medical equipment is the newest service offered through Mecklenburg County enhanced recycling. Other accepted items include white rigid foam, books, shredded paper, textiles, food waste, clean wood and furniture, and solar panels.
