‘This Is My Brave’ Show to Highlight Local Stories of Resiliency

This Is My Brave” is hosting its third local show to highlight stories of mental health, substance use, community violence and the hope of recovery. Individuals with lived experience will share their stories on a live stage through artistic expressions such as essay reading, spoken word poetry, original music, dance, and other creative methods.

The show will take place on March 21 at 3 p.m. at Project 658 – 3646 Central Avenue, Charlotte. “This Is My Brave” is a national non-profit that believes in the power of every individual to embrace who they are, share their story, eliminate stigma and change the world. Mecklenburg County Public Health is partnering with “This Is My Brave” for the third Charlotte/Mecklenburg County area show.

“We are working to improve community resilience by shining a light and empowering people to share their experiences with mental health, substance abuse and violence,” shared Ebony Rao, Mecklenburg County Public Health Senior Health Program Manager for the Office of Violence Prevention. “Storytelling is a powerful tool to help break the stigma around mental health and build a community of support.”

Performers are available for interviews and engagement with the media before the show to give insights and a preview. Learn more about the storytellers on Instagram @charmeckbrave

Public Health and its partners will also host a resource fair before the show at 2 p.m. It will give the audience the opportunity to learn about programs and other helpful and healing pathways.
