Bivalent COVID-19 Vaccines to be Used as Booster Dose

Used for 2023 budget cover

As of Sept. 1, 2022, Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) will pause giving COVID-19 booster doses to anyone 12 or older because updated boosters of the vaccines are expected next week. The new bivalent formulations of the vaccines or updated boosters, include an mRNA component of the original strain to provide an immune response that is broadly protective against COVID-19 and an mRNA component in common between the omicron subvariant BA.4 and BA.5 lineages to provide better protection against COVID-19 caused by the omicron variant. MCPH staff has notified clients with appointments potentially impacted by this change. Read the news release from the US Food and Drug Administration for more information. MCPH will keep our vaccine page updated as new information becomes available.

There is a change in the days and hours for the MCPH's distribution sites for the at-home COVID-19. Please see below.
