The Latest Plans for Latta Place

Recently, Park and Recreation leaders shared the initial interpretive master planning recommendations for reopening the Latta site located at Latta Nature Preserve in Huntersville.

The initial recommendations provide three options for Latta Place. Each option presents a different visitor experience while carefully considering interpretation, programming and the overall visitor experience. Each option includes recommendations for improved site accessibility, special events and public art.

“There are many ways to tell the stories of the County’s historic properties,” said Lee Jones, Park and Recreation Director. “It’s likely that the final recommendations will be a blended fourth option that considers community and stakeholder feedback and these initial recommendations.”

In 2023, Park and Recreation will continue to gather feedback from the community on the initial recommendations as well as conduct archival research, identify key informants and collect stories to be utilized in the reopening of Latta.
