More Healthy Benefits for Seniors at Farmers Markets

Fresh and organic vegetables at farmers market

Summer is a great season for fresh fruits and vegetables. A hallmark of that bounty is in farmers markets throughout Mecklenburg County. In partnership with North Carolina, Mecklenburg County is participating in the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). Eligible seniors can receive a $50 voucher per season to purchase produce.

“We want to make sure our seniors are supported in getting fresh fruits and vegetables which are important to their health and well-being,” said Dr. Kimberly Scott, Mecklenburg County Assistant Health Director for Population Health. “Our role is to protect the health of our residents and caring for our seniors is a priority.”

The vouchers for seniors will be available at two specific farmers markets starting the week of June 10.
