Romare Bearden Park Wins 'Urbie' for 'Great Public Space'
For the second year in a row, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation brought home an Urban Design Award (Urbie). This year, Romare Bearden Park was recognized as a “Great Public Space.” Little Sugar Creek Greenway won in the same category in 2021.
Fostering a deep sense of place in the heart of uptown, Romare Bearden Park spans just over five acres and offers waterfalls and a misting area during warmer months, a large grassy area for recreation and relaxation as well as the perfect spot for hosting events throughout the year.
Nominated by members of the community, Romare Bearden Park was selected for the award by a jury of 10 urban design experts for its inclusivity and distinction as a place where people from all walks of life feel welcome.
