Veterans Benefits Live

Veterans and their families from Mecklenburg County and across the region will have a face-to-face opportunity to ask questions and get answers about their benefits, plus learn about other valuable services.

For the first time since 2019, Mecklenburg County Veterans Services, U.S. Veterans Affairs and other partners are sponsoring Veterans Benefits Live: VA in My Town: Mecklenburg County.

It's a three-day single-stop open house with programming designed to help veterans and their families navigate the many services available to them. VA representatives and other partners will help attendees one-on-one with their benefits, claims, appeals and other concerns.

When:

  • Thursday, Aug. 18, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m

  • Friday, Aug. 19, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

  • Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Where: Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216

With one stop, veterans and their dependents can receive services including:

  • Veterans' benefits (on-site claims assistance)

  • VA healthcare (eligibility and enrollment

  • Legal assistance

  • Mental health and substance abuse screenings

  • Counseling services

  • Employment, education, housing, insurance services, etc.

  • Peer-to-peer connection

  • Much more

Veterans and their dependents should bring their DD214, medical and service records, and dependency documents.

COVID-19 alert: At this time, host site Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will require masks and temperature screenings for all visitors.

Mecklenburg County is home to more than 50,000 veterans. There are 140,000 veterans in the Charlotte metropolitan area, the largest concentration in North Carolina. In FY2021, Veterans Affairs spent more than $550 million to benefit Mecklenburg County veterans, which includes $311 million in direct payments to veterans.
