On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, Mecklenburg County’s Solid Waste Management Program will hold a small business hazardous waste collection event which will allow non-residential organizations to bring hazardous waste for a reduced fee. Hazardous waste includes fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, rechargeable batteries, paints, and more. The County’s full-service recycling centers can only accept residential hazardous materials, pursuant to EPA regulations, so the County has special collection events for schools, businesses, and other non-residential entities. These events are offered periodically for organizations that qualify as a very small quantity generator.
“Lots of organizations can qualify as a very small quantity generator. Do you have a small business, non-profit, church or work for an organization that generates hazardous waste? Let us help you!,” says Solid Waste Director Jeff Smithberger.
This event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26. Organizations are accepted by appointment only and space is limited. To make an appointment:
