Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is serving up a new volleyball league for girls ages 11-13. The league is the latest addition to a growing lineup of sports that Park and Recreation hosts for girls of all skill levels.

“By offering more girls-only leagues, we are creating fun, competitive environments where girls can learn proper fundamentals, develop strong skills, and thrive through sports,” said Kiana Brooks, a recreation program supervisor for Park and Recreation’s youth sports.

Girls will play a six-game season, with the opportunity for post-season play. Games will take place on Tuesday evenings at Ray’s Splash Planet and Wallace Pruitt Recreation Center. Practice dates vary by team and site.

Registration for the girls volleyball league is open Aug. 1 through Sept. 5. The fee is $90 for Mecklenburg County residents or $108 for nonresidents.

Scholarships are available to qualifying families as part of Park and Recreation’s commitment to providing affordable programs for all. Families can contact a nearby recreation center, or Park and Recreation’s Youth Sports staff at 980-314-1118 or [email protected], to learn if they qualify for the scholarship program.

Beginning Sept. 6, a fee of $10 will be issued for late registrations.
