Public Health Director to Lead National Organization

Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington is the new chair for Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC), a national forum of leaders from 35 of the country’s largest health departments. BCHC directly impacts more than 61 million people.

“Public Health impacts every single one of us and when we have a collective voice, our reach can go farther and make a greater impact,” said Dr. Washington. “Big Cities Health Coalition member departments reach one in five Americans, and I am honored to helm this dynamic group of public health leaders.”

Washington will lead the executive committee whose members represent Seattle, Memphis, Tenn.; Dallas; Minneapolis; San Jose, Calif.; and Columbus, Ohio.

“I look forward to working with the new chair, Dr. Raynard Washington, who has already displayed his natural leadership skills on our board,” said BCHC Executive Director Chrissie Juliano.
