Public Health Issues Measles Exposure Notice

Mecklenburg County Public Health is issuing a measles exposure notice for the following locations:

  • Vista Auction (2500 Sardis Rd.) on Jan. 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Lidl (9318 Monroe Rd.) on Jan. 30 from 2-4:30 p.m.

If you were at these locations during those dates and times, you should monitor for symptoms and learn what to do after a potential measles exposure. These locations were not the source of infection and are now safe to visit. They are cooperating with public health on the investigation.

This exposure isn’t linked to any cases in Mecklenburg County – it is linked to a case from another jurisdiction. There are currently 3 reported cases of measles in Mecklenburg County. Public Health continues to work with partners across jurisdictions to investigate and monitor the situation as measles cases are increasing across the Carolinas. When exposures of a case cannot be identified or contacted through the case investigation, public health will issue an exposure notice to protect health and prevent further spread.

Measles is a viral illness that can have serious health complications and can easily spread. The symptoms of measles include a fever, runny nose, cough, rash and red eyes. Measles is highly contagious and can remain active and infectious in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person has left a room.

If you see symptoms of measles, call your doctor, clinic or emergency department right away. It’s important to call a healthcare facility before you go to get instructions to prevent further spread of measles.

All cases and exposure notices in the county are reported on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services measles dashboard, which updates Tuesdays and Fridays.

The MMR vaccine is widely available at healthcare providers and retail pharmacies across Mecklenburg County. The MMR vaccine is offered at Public Health's Immunization Clinic
