RXO Selects Mecklenburg County for Upcoming Expansion: Company to Bring 216 New Jobs to Charlotte
RXO, a high-tech freight transportation broker, will expand operations at its Mecklenburg County headquarters. The company will invest $13.7 million and bring 216 new jobs over the next several years to the Ballantyne submarket.
“One of our core commitments is creating and maintaining a pro-business climate that keeps companies such as RXO competitive and growing in Mecklenburg County,” said Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair George Dunlap. “RXO’s expansion is a victory for both the company and our residents.”
Established as a public company in November 2022 and headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, RXO is an independent, publicly owned operation focused on tech-enabled brokered transportation.
"RXO is proud to expand our operations in Charlotte," said RXO Chief Executive Officer Drew Wilkerson. "We will continue to leverage the city’s strong infrastructure and skilled workforce to fuel our growth and contribute to the city’s continued economic success.”
With proximity to key interstates, a thriving rail system, an international airport, along with the city's growing economy, skilled workforce and business-friendly climate, Charlotte offers RXO the ideal environment to optimize supply chain solutions and expand its global operations.
"RXO's decision to renew and expand its office presence at Ballantyne is a resounding commitment to Charlotte, reflecting its confidence in the strength and vibrancy of our community," said John Barton, President of Northwood Office. “We are grateful for our relationship with RXO and pleased to support its continued growth and success.”
RXO’s growth plans would increase the company’s current statewide headcount from 759 full-time employees to 975. These plans include an increase of 216 net new jobs in Charlotte over the next three years, with an average annual salary of $89,769. RXO currently has a headcount of 647 at its company headquarters in Charlotte.
"This is not just an expansion; it's a significant milestone for our city’s growth and economic development,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “This investment will create jobs, drive innovation, and enhance our community's prosperity. I am thrilled to see how this partnership will shape the future of Charlotte, making it an even more dynamic place to live and work."
This project was a collaborative effort between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and the North Carolina General Assembly.
Over the past two years, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have collaborated on multiple economic development projects, including the relocations and expansions of Siemens Energy, TTX, alpitronic Americas Inc., Albemarle Corporation, and Solve Industrial Motion Group. With today’s announcement of RXO’s expansion, the City and County have helped bring more than $440 million in capital investment and 1,291 new jobs.
