Seniors Receive Triple Benefits at Uptown Farmers Market

Fresh and organic vegetables at farmers market

Seniors who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can triple the value of their benefits during a one-day-only event, thanks to a special grant. The special opportunity is at the Uptown Farmers Market only on Saturday, Sept. 21.

“The summer season is winding down but there’s still plenty of fresh, healthy produce to enjoy from our local farmers,” said Dr. Raynard Washington, Mecklenburg County Public Health director.  “I encourage all of our seniors to take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity this weekend.”

In partnership with North Carolina, Aetna Better Health is helping residents who receive SNAP benefits triple the value of benefits at the Uptown Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 21. Mecklenburg County’s ongoing SNAP Double Bucks program provides seniors up to $100 in benefits, and the grant adds another $50 this Saturday only, tripling the benefit up to $150.
