Small Businesses and Organizations Can Save Money at Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Small Business Hazardous Waste

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling invites small businesses, nonprofits and other qualifying, nonresidential organizations to drop off their hazardous waste for a reduced fee during a special collection event on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Hazardous waste includes fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, rechargeable batteries, paints, and more.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizations can participate by appointment only, and space is limited. To make an appointment, call 336-855-7925 or email [email protected].

Solid Waste and Recycling is offering $100 off for the first five Mecklenburg County customers that qualify, sign up and participate. Collection will take place at the County’s tire and metal facility at 5740 Rozzelles Ferry Road in Charlotte.

Pursuant to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations, the County’s full-service recycling centers can only accept residential hazardous materials. To support schools, businesses and other nonresidential entities that generate small quantities of hazardous waste, Mecklenburg County periodically offers special collection events.

“Lots of organizations can qualify as a very small quantity generator,” said Jeff Smithberger, director of Solid Waste and Recycling. “Do you have a small business, nonprofit, church or other organization that generates hazardous waste? Let us help you!”
