Suzette Rhee Nedrich, a Mecklenburg County public information officer since 2022, has been promoted to the position of director of the Public Information Department

Mecklenburg County’s Public Information Department is responsible for providing news and information that keeps residents and employees informed about County initiatives, policies, programs, services and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. The department uses a variety of communication channels to help enhance transparency, increase civic engagement, and tell the Mecklenburg County story.

During the past three years with Mecklenburg County, Nedrich has established a reputation of delivering excellent service for internal and external clients, for teamwork across departments and disciplines, and for her work on special projects.

Prior to joining Mecklenburg County, Nedrich had a long career as a local television reporter and anchor, working with stations in North Carolina and Virginia. She has served as an executive producer in public television, as anchor for the City of Charlotte’s GOV Channel, and has anchored Mecklenburg County’s What’s Trending segments on Meck TV. Nedrich has received numerous awards for television storytelling including Television Reporter of the Year by the Virginia Associated Press, many Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awards for individual stories, and an Emmy award for a 30-minute special program on gun violence at schools called Generation Under Fire.

Nedrich has also worked in the private sector in corporate communications and has provided news media training for executive leaders and individual contributors in public and nonprofit sectors.

“Telling the story of Mecklenburg County is the most important job we do,” said Nedrich. “Our role is to share critical information with the residents of Mecklenburg County, foster community engagement, and ensure those residents know what they’re getting for their tax dollars. We do that by telling the big and small stories, working with the County’s more than 6,000 employees, and serving our many community partners transparently and responsively.”

Nedrich was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of nine and grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia. She attended Radford University in Radford, Virginia, earning a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications with a concentration in Journalism.
