Canadian-based AVL Manufacturing Picks Mecklenburg County for Manufacturing Plant, Creating More Than 325 Jobs

Canadian-based AVL Manufacturing will open its first U.S.-based mobile machine manufacturing plant in Charlotte, creating more than 325 new jobs and investing more than $56 million in the Steele Creek submarket.

AVL USA, Inc. is a new company established by AVL Manufacturing, which is headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario. AVL specializes in the manufacture of custom industrial enclosures for large format standby power generators. The company’s products are used in a wide variety of applications, such as supplying backup power to large and hyper-scale data centers. The company’s project in Charlotte will establish a manufacturing operation in the United States to produce and assemble generator enclosures for power redundancy. The large metal casings include electric inputs, switchgear, and enclosures required for data center servers and equipment. In addition to data center power generation, AVL’s products are used in the automotive, automation, construction and emergency management sectors.

The planned 232,000-square-foot facility will be located at 13006 Sam Neely Road.
Jobs include production, electricians, service technicians and management with an average salary of $76,052.
This project was a collaborative effort between Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System and the Commerce Department’s Division of Workforce Solutions.

During the past 12 months, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have collaborated on economic development projects supporting relocations and expansions, including groninger USA , RXO and HSP US. With today’s announcement from AVL Manufacturing, the City and County have helped to bring more than $153 million in capital investment and 835 new jobs.
