2024 Mecklenburg County Senior Games and SilverArts Registration to Open Feb. 5
Established to promote health and wellness for people 50 years old and up, the annual Mecklenburg County Senior Games and SilverArts provide a forum to meet new people, enjoy healthy competition, be creative, and, most importantly, to HAVE FUN! Will you be the winner of the next annual Senior Games?
“We have over 200 participants from across the county in a typical year,” said Jason Tryon, superintendent of community recreation for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. “This just goes to show you are never too old to play.”
Park and Recreation wants you to be a part of the next games! The 2024 Mecklenburg County Senior Games and SilverArts will be held from April to June.
Register for Senior Games and SilverArts between Feb. 5-23 to get the early bird rates of $15 for Mecklenburg County residents and $18 for nonresidents. From Feb. 24 to the registration deadline of March 8, the standard rates of $25 for residents and $30 for nonresidents will apply. As part of the registration process, participants must submit, in person or by mail, a registration form that includes a waiver and payment.
About the Senior Games
Athletic events offered at Senior Games include bowling, cycling, swimming, and track and field events. Tournament-style events for billiards, horseshoes and croquet will also be held. Multiple racket events will be held, including tennis, table tennis, badminton, racquetball and pickleball.
About the SilverArts
SilverArts is a celebration of the creative expression of seniors and are a major component of the traditional athletic competition of Senior Games.
Striving to keep seniors active and involved, the program unites athlete and artist to highlight the similarities found in both. Qualities of discipline, dedication and pride in accomplishment can be found on display in a range of artistic mediums.
SilverArts categories include literary arts for entries in essay, short story and poems. Visual arts submissions being sought include pastels, photography, sculpture and watercolors.
Performing arts will include vocal, comedy and line dancing showcases. Cheerleading squads in groups small, medium, and large compete at the local level.
Heritage arts include a display of skills in local basket weaving, crocheting, knitting, needlework, quilting, stained glass, pottery, weaving, woodcarving and woodworking.
