  3. Help with Heating Bills: Applications for Assistance Begin Dec. 1

    Residents who have trouble paying their winter heating bills can get help through Mecklenburg County’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). It is one of several programs that help low-income households with their immediate energy needs, so they do not need to choose between heating their homes and other basic needs. Mecklenburg County will begin taking LIEAP applications on Dec. 1 for senior citizens aged 60 and older or disabled individuals.
  4. Public Health’s First Mobile Health Unit Hits the Road

    Providing services to more residents across Mecklenburg County takes on new meaning as Public Health's first mobile health unit has arrived and is ready to take to the road. The mobile van will be used for vaccination, testing, and education events year-round.

    In this last month of the application season, the County is offering in-person application help.
  6. Everybody Counts Charlotte: Volunteers & Donations Needed for 'Point in Time' Count

    November is National Homeless Awareness Month and preparations are underway for the 2024 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count. On Jan. 25, 2024, volunteers will span out across Charlotte-Mecklenburg streets, shelters, and encampments to identify individuals who are living without homes. Mecklenburg County is now seeking volunteers to help ensure everybody counts. 
  7. Stick to It: Recycling Right

    Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling is offering free stickers that residents can apply to their recycling carts as a reminder of what is accepted for curbside recycling pickup: plastic bottles and jugs with necks, cardboard, paper, metal cans, cartons and juice boxes, and glass jars and bottles.
  8. New Families, New Beginnings: Mecklenburg County to Celebrate National Adoption Day

    The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners has proclaimed November as National Adoption Awareness Month. On Saturday, Nov. 18, Mecklenburg County and N.C. Courts will celebrate National Adoption Day with recently adopted children and their families. Thirty-four youth who have received decrees between October 2022 and October 2023 will be recognized.
